Elevating 6G Beyond Connectivity

SS03: Bridging Gaps: female researchers in mobile radio communications at Industry and Academia

SS03: Bridging Gaps: female researchers in mobile radio communications at Industry and Academia

CHAIRS:

  • Conchi Garcia-Pardo, Senior Researcher, iTEAM-UPV
  • Ana Garcia Armada, full proffessor, UC3M
  • Irene Alepuz Benaches, R&D Project Manager, iTEAM-UPV
  • Bahare M. Khorsandi, Senior Research Engineer, Nokia

SCOPE:

Given the small number of women in our sector, different groups involved in research at radiocommunications are joining forces to highlight the role of women in telecommunications, further raising awareness of gender inclusivity and engaging different stakeholders. Supporting groups/associations:

Women in Telecommunications and Research (WiTaR) is an EU-level initiative that promotes gender equality, inclusion and empowerment in the 6G Research & Innovation (R&I) community. The group started its activity as part of European 6G flagship project Hexa-X, extended to all projects in 5GPPP. As of 2024, WiTaR is officially a 6G-IA working group.

IEEE ComSoc Women in Communications Engineering (WICE) is a standing committee within ComSoc. Its mission is to promote the visibility and roles of women networking and communications engineers and to provide a venue for their professional growth.

COST Action CA20120 on Intelligence-Enabling Radio Communications for Seamless Inclusive Interactions (INTERACT), is a COST action aiming at contributing to the development of the next generation of radio communication networks, 6G. It encompasses more than 500 researchers on the field of radio communications from around the world. It also accounts with 14 working groups if different topics dealing with 6G communications. Within INTERACT, the Women on INTERACT group is devoted to promote activities within the action for closing the gender gap at radiocommunications research.
